Muramaris -a little bit of Toscana on Gotland

Long time no see... I'd hoped to continue my blogging from Gotland during the summer, but I guess I was a little bit to human...

Working 150% plus two almost 3-years olds to take care of has not left time for much more! But here I am! Back in business :-)

The other day I stumbled over these old photos that I shot for a Finish interior magazine, Glorian Antikki, many years ago. They are from the very peculiar house of Muramaris here on the island. It was built by an artistic couple, Johnny and Ellen Roosval in 1917 with inspiration from an Italian countryside villa. It lies beautifully on a cliff near the sea slightly north of Visby. And on the property, you also find an old bathing house, tennis court, ateliers, etc... Unfortunately, the house burnt down to the ground in 2013, it has been rebuilt but is no longer open for visits, what I know off. I really loved to stroll around in the garden and the surrounding woods, it seemed so exotic and different, yet so much Gotland!
At the inside, before the fire, you found beautiful wall paintings by Greta Ruth and Märta Ankarswärd, and in the salon, a fantastic open fire carved out of sandstone by Ellen!
